Jose has finally weakened into a tropical storm as it moves northeast, making its closest approach to southeastern New England. He will not make landfall but will still bring in showers to this portion of New England and wind gusts up to 60 mph on the islands of Massachusetts. This will likely cause some power outages in the area. As we track Jose into the weekend, it’s just going to linger around off the Northeast coast, gradually weakening in time and eventually becoming a post-tropical cyclone as the full effects of the cooler ocean water takes place. Sometime early next week, Jose will either dissipate, make landfall on the Northeast as a very weak system, or move out to sea.
The forecast cone from NHC shows a big blob because the storm will just stall offshore.
