Christmas is only a few days away, so many of you are probably wondering: What are the chances for a White Christmas?

First when we examine this question, we look at the odds for a white Christmas in any given year. In southwestern Connecticut, we historically have a 30-35% chance for a white Christmas, which means that there is a 30-35% chance for at least one inch of snow on the ground or falling snow on Christmas Day.

Now looking at this year's forecast, the models are trending on a warmup right around Christmas, so that will favor warmer weather. That warm weather will melt any snow on the ground leading up to December 25th and/or keep temperatures too warm for snow to fall. Therefore, a white Christmas this year is looking very unlikely.
