On Friday, Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy issued the first-ever drought watch for the entire state: “After three years of precipitation shortfalls, we are moving to a Drought Watch and it would be extremely helpful if residents could be mindful of their water consumption and take sensible steps to help stretch our water supply,” Malloy said.

Residents and businesses are being urged to conserve water and to cut water usage by 15 percent. There are also water emergencies in Darien, Danbury, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Bethel and Ridgefield.

This drought comes after a very dry and hot summer where Connecticut received between 60 and 73 percent of normal precipitation. This dryness has led to below average reservoir levels across the state. In our area, reservoirs are only at about 30 percent of normal.
