The Science Behind Cirrostratus Clouds

Cirrostratus clouds are high-level clouds contained entirely of ice crystals. These clouds can be thick, but they are viewed a thin clouds because they are transparent, so you can still see the sun through these clouds. Sometimes when you see these clouds, a halo forms around the sun because of the cloud's ice crystals.

Cirrostratus clouds form when a large region of air is being lifted by a large area of convergence, which is where winds come together from different directions. Now you know the science behind cirrostratus clouds.​
