We continue to monitor Post-Tropical Cyclone Hermine, which will have at least some impacts Labor Day.
Hermine will strengthen, gaining hurricane force winds over the warm ocean waters off the Northeast coast. This storm is not forecast to make landfall, but it will be around, meandering offshore for several days during the beginning of the new week.

This forecast cone looks odd because the storm is expected to stall off the New Jersey and Long Island coast for several days. Right now, here's the updated chances for experiencing tropical storm force winds, which are sustained winds of at least 39 mph:

Therefore, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coast until further notice:

Also, a big issue with Hermine are the large waves. Up to 25 foot waves are possible near the center of this storm offshore, but 15 foot waves are possible from Maryland to the Southern Coast of Long Island. 10 to 15 foot waves are also possible in Long Island Sound in our neck of the woods. Do not go into the ocean. The National Weather Service is warning of an unusually high chance for life-threatening rip currents through at least Monday:

A Storm Surge Watch is still in effect for Long Island because life-threatening storm surge is possible:

Now to the weather forecast: On Monday, which is Labor Day, partly cloudy skies are expected with gusty winds up to 50 mph, especially at the coast. Therefore, this storm will have more impacts to coastal communities because of the large waves and beach erosion.
