Two Tropical Threats to the US

We're watching two tropical depressions in the Atlantic basin right now, both of which may have direct impacts to the United States this week.

Tropical Depression Eight developed Sunday morning over the Atlantic between North Carolina and Bermuda. This storm is forecast to move west while strengthening to a tropical storm. This storm will either be named Hermine or Ian depending on when the other tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico develops. The question with Tropical Depression Eight is if this storm will make landfall on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Most of the models don't have this storm making a complete landfall, but the center of this storm will get pretty close.

Therefore, Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect from Kill Devil Hills south through Morehead City in North Carolina because tropical storm conditions are possible with the center of this storm getting pretty close to the Outer Banks.

We're also watching Tropical Depression Nine in the Gulf of Mexico, which is likely to make landfall on the western Florida coast around Thursday. This storm is beginning to move northeast in the Gulf right now toward Florida while strengthening into a tropical storm. This future tropical storm will also either be named Hermine or Ian. As of now, the National Hurricane Center has this storm making landfall as a 65 mph storm, so Tropical Storm or Hurricane Watches may need to be issued today ahead of landfall.

Remember to stay with Jackson's Weather for continuing updates on this double tropical threat to the United States the next few days.
