Drier Times Ahead May Worsen Drought

We did pick up several inches of rainfall within the past week, but that did not help our drought. Despite this rain though, the soil moisture is below average.

The latest drought monitor, which just came out this Thursday shows no improvements to the drought. In fact, parts of northeastern Connecticut are now in a severe drought.

If we compare this drought monitor with last week's, you can see the worsening of the drought:

This drought is likely to get worse even further because warmer, drier, and sunnier days are here and they will be continuing into at least the beginning of next week. The Climate Prediction Center has our area in the likely for below average precipitation zone for next week.

The models are also agreeing with this dry weather trend. The European model gives our area a 0 percent chance for over an inch of rain within next Wednesday.

Therefore, drought conditions are expected to worsen as we progress into the rest of this week and get into next week. Stay with Jackson's Weather for the latest forecast.
