Stratocumulus clouds are low-level clouds that are usually seen as a sheet of gray or white colored clouds with breaks of blue skies in between. These clouds are arranged in a pattern across the sky as rounded masses.

Stratocumulus clouds form from weak convection. These clouds represent dry, stable weather. Often when you see these clouds on the visible satellite over the tropics, that represents dry air, which means tropical development is not likely. Now you know the science behind stratocumulus clouds.
