Humidity is simply the amount of water vapor in the air, or the amount of water as a gas in the air. Humidity can be measured by finding the relative humidity. This is the percent that you often see associated with humidity, and it is the amount of moisture relative to the air. When the relative humidity is high or closer to 100 percent, it often indicates that there will be precipitation. Now when the relative humidity is high, it does not always guarentee that it will feel humid or sticky outside. Now you know the science behind humidity.
Next week, I will talk about a better way that measures more of the comfort level outside that has to do with humidity.
