It's been a while since many of you in the Northeast have seen the sunshine, but the pattern will change as the relentless omega block finally breaks down.

Several Northeast cities have been through at least ten days since Tuesday, April 26th of cloudy skies. Also, some locations like Washington, D.C. has broke their record of consecutive days of measurable rainfall with eleven days as of Sunday, May 8th. The last time D.C. has had a sunny day was back on April 17th.

Cloudy and Rainy Days

On top of all the clouds and rain there has been, parts of the Northeast has seen over 300% of their average rainfall to date in the month of May. In fact, if you look at the statistics in Richmond, Virginia, they have picked up 5.02 inches of rain so far in May, compared to the month to date average of 0.67 inches. Also, in Washington, D.C. and even in Philadelphia, they have both picked up over two inches of rainfall this May, which is 385% and 362% above normal respectively.

Rainfall Comparison

You're probably wondering when the weather will get nicer and I definitely have good news, with the sunshine returning beginning this Mother's Day. Sunshine and warmer conditions are in the forecast for the Mid-Atlantic, although a few showers in the morning are possible in Eastern New York and Western New England. Eastern New England will be dealing with the showers later Sunday. For much of next week, we are looking at dry and sunny weather for New England and New York state through Thursday. Parts of the Mid-Atlantic though may see a few showers and storms midweek. All locations should feel more seasonable and possibly above average temperatures next week.
