Summer 2016 Forecast

Summer is coming around the corner, beginning June 21st, which is also the Summer Solstice. The models and forecasters, including me, are mainly in agreement that an above average temperature Summer is in store for the entire United States. For precipitation, it is forecast to be wetter in the Southern tier of the country and drier for the northern half of the US.
So what does that mean for us? For our area and the Northeast, it is expected for there to be above normal temperatures and below average precipitation (rainfall). In fact, some meteorologists are saying that this could be the hottest Summers for the Northeast since the Summer of 2012, which broke several records for the heat. Also, more heat waves are looking likely.

For precipitation, it is seeming to be relatively dry, but needless to say, we will still get rain at times, just not as often and not as much. Of course climate forecasts are very hard to create, so this forecast will probably not play out exactly how it is forecast to. In additon, because a La Niña is expected to develop by the end of the Summer, that will be influencing this year's Summer forecast, making it even more difficult to predict.
