After Winter Storm Grayson dumped snow and brought very strong winds to the area on Thursday, the National Weather Service office in New York, NY released a report Saturday morning stating the locations, including Danbury and Bridgeport, that verified with blizzard conditions. First of all, I thought it was a mistake that they didn't issue a Blizzard Warning for this storm. Instead, our area was under a Winter Storm Warning, even though blizzard conditions were clearly possible.
Technically, a blizzard is defined as having frequent wind gusts of at least 35 mph plus visibilities less than a quarter mile lasting for at least three consecutive hours. We indeed verified with these conditions at the two weather stations in Bridgeport and Danbury. In Bridgeport, the blizzard lasted from 8:52AM through 12:32PM.
