October has finally ended and after gathering all of the data, I can conclude that it was a very mild and wet month, especially with that end of month deluge where many locations received between four and six inches of rain. At my house in Wilton, I picked up 5.76 inches between Sunday and Monday.
The warmest temperature we hit was during the first half of the month. That was 80 degrees, which is definitely above average because our average highs in October are in the 60's and 70's. That helped contribute to a way above average average temperature for the month. It ended up being 7.4 degrees above average! Lastly, rainfall was definitely above average. Much of the month was dry where we actually briefly got into a drought, but after two deluges at the end of the month, the drought dissipated and we ended up with rainfall at 3.73 inches above normal.
Because temperatures on average were 7.4 degrees above normal, that made the October of 2017 the warmest on record for our area by almost a full degree!
We also had many clear, mostly sunny skies, but also about a third of the days in the month received measurable rain.
Now that it's November, we're starting to get closer to winter with the days getting shorter, temperatures getting colder, and the chance for the first snow increasing.
