Fall Warmth This October

October has arrived! Often you think of cool, crisp conditions and pumpkin spice lattes during October but your mind may be set somewhere else this year because a mild October is forecast overall.

Jackson's Weather and the Climate Prediction Center, which is part of the National Weather Service, are both forecasting for October 2017 to feature temperatures above average. The greatest chance for those warmer temperatures will be in the Northeast, which includes southwestern Connecticut.

Climate Prediction Center October Temperature Outlook

During the first full week of October, we are very confident that temperatures will be higher than normal. The average high for this time of the year is around 65 degrees. Highs this week are forecast to be between 70 and 80 degrees, then possibly cooling down into the upper 60's during the weekend due to a cold front but that's still above average.

The culprit for this warmth, like last week's, is a big upper-level ridge of high pressure that is very rare to develop in October. This ridge will build over the U.S. East Coast, peaking in intensity midweek. Therefore, temperatures will be at their warmest on Wednesday or Thursday.

Warm in the East; Cool in the West

We hope you enjoy the warmth before the very cold weather with winter arrives later this year!
