Fall Foliage Forecast

This year's fall foliage is forecast to peak about a week ahead of schedule in southwestern Connecticut. The map below shows the prediction for the second week of October to feature the peak foliage, which is when the colors of the leaves on the trees will be the most vibrant with the pretty yellow, orange, and red colors.

These colors change from green to a yellow, orange, or red because the production of chlorophyll in the leaves gradually slows down during the season of fall. This is due to the shorter and cooler days. As the amount of chlorophyll lessens, the true colors of the leaves become apparent.

Get your cameras ready because a great season of fall foliage is appearing likely in our area!
